NUMBER OF BOOKS IN SCHOOL LIBRARIES REACHED 50 MILLION IN THE LAST 4 MONTHSWithin the framework of the "No More Schools Without Libraries Project" initiated on October 26, 2021 by the Ministry of National Education in order to reduce opportunity differences between schools, the number of books in the school libraries reached 50 million in the last 4 months.
"No More Schools Without Libraries Project" initiated on October 26, 2021 by the Ministry of National Education in order to reduce opportunity differences between schools was finalized on December 31, 2021. As a part of the project, 16,361 new libraries were founded in different parts of the country. The project was implemented under the auspices of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's spouse Emine Erdoğan.
Number of books in the school libraries rapidly increased after the project. Establishment of new libraries and renovation of old libraries increased the number of books to 50 million. The Ministry is aiming at increasing the number of books in school libraries to 100 million.
Number of schools that have more than 10 thousand books in their libraries increased to 83
Meanwhile, the number of schools with libraries having more than 10 to 20 thousand books increased to 72 and N-number of schools that have more than 10 thousand books in their libraries increased to 83.
Highest number of books is at the Galatasaray High School Library
Highest number of books are at the Galatasary High School and the library in the school has 80 thousand and 991. Kartal Anadolu İmam Hatip High School library has 53 thousand and 984 books.
"We are focusing on reducing opportunity differences among schools as a part of providing equal opportunities in education. We have successfully completed the "No More Schools Without Libraries Project. Outcome of the project is to improve student per book figures and now the number of books per student has reached 6.6," said Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer.
